Sacrament of the sick
The Sacrament of the Sick, also called the Anointing of the Sick, acknowledges the healing ministry of Jesus. It invokes the healing power of God on the person who receives it and is intended to give the person strength and comfort in time of illness.
This Sacrament is administered to people who are seriously ill, to people undergoing surgery, to the elderly in times of frailty and to people with on-going physical or mental illnesses. It takes the form of prayer over the person and anointing them with the Oil of the Sick. The Oil of the Sick is blessed each year by the Bishop on Holy Thursday and distributed to parishes for use in the Sacrament of the Sick.
To enquire about receiving the Sacrament of the Sick for yourself or someone else, please contact the Parish Office or one of the Priests of the Parish.
