Funeral Ministry Team

Funeral Ministry Team

The Funeral Team is a relatively new ministry which started in the Dublin Diocese in 2000, and is now established in one hundred and fifty parishes.

Founded in 2013, the Maynooth Funeral Team consists of three parishioners, who have received training. They attend diocesan workshops with other parish funeral teams as they seek to develop this ministry.

The role of the Funeral Team is to assist the priests and bereaved families in preparation for the funeral services. The funeral team have put together a variety of readings, for use as they assist families with the liturgy readings and prayers of intercession. A personalised funeral Mass leaflet is offered to each bereaved family and this is provided by the parish.

Members of the Funeral Team may accompany the family to the graveside or crematorium, and to say the final prayers.

At the present time due to Covid19 restrictions we have had to make some changes to the family involvement at the Funeral Mass: No Symbols or Offertory Procession are allowed. Words of appreciation will be short – no more than 3 minutes and at the beginning of Mass.
